This 1/6 plate clear ambrotype came out of Prince George County, VA and has a verbal I.D. of Jesse Spiers (Josephine Spires). Private Spiers served in the 9th VA Infantry, Capt. Chappell's Company. He was born about 1846. He wears an unbuttoned double-breasted frock coat. The 9th VA was a hard-fought unit that saw action in Manassas (1st & 2nd), Seven Pines, Malvern Hill, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville andGettysburg just to mention a few. He survived the war and returned home living in Prince George County where he was a farmer. Spiers died at age 90 unmarried in 1876. #9709=$1400.00
