Identified as Taylor Langford scratched into the reverse of this 1/4 plate tintype. Langford was a farmer from Monroe County, TN and joined the 4th Indiana Cavalry as the regiment was passing through Tennessee on their way to Georgia to join Sherman in the siege of Atlanta on March 5, 1864. He mustered out on July 22, 1865, at Nashville, TN. Pension records indicate that he was deaf and blind on the right side. He claimed it was due to his service, there this was consistently denied by the U.S. Pension Office. Additionally, his name was alternatively spelled Lankford in the muster rolls leading to an initially denial suspecting he was a deserter. #12465=$600.00
