There two images are both tintypes. The 1st image is a 1/6 plate that comes in a half leatherette case. The second image is a 9th plate that comes in a rare, green thermoplastic case (Berg #3-354a). It is the same sergeant posed with his hands folded in his lap and wearing a frock coat with brass shoulder scales. These are both early war images as these brass scales were quickly discarded as being impractical. Note that these are two different poses as his hands are slightly different between the two images.
