Newell W. Beeson, Company G of the 2nd NC Infantry. He enlisted as a private at Wake County, NC on 2/26/1864. He was from Davidson County, NC and
was 18 years old. He was promoted to corporal on 12/15/1864 and is shown on the roster as hospitalized around 3/15/1865. This unit saw a ton of
activity to include, but not limited to Gettysburg, Missionary Ridge, Wilderness, Spotsylvania Court House, Cold Harbor, Kennesaw Mountain, D.C.
Campaign, Winchester, Cedar Creek, Petersburg and Appomattox Courthouse. The image is a 1/6 plate ambrotype that has been lacquered on the reverse.
Unfortunately, someone tried to clean the image and it suffers from some swipes as can be seen in the scan. Beeson wears a shell jacket with
dark cuffs and a dark collar as is often seen in NC images. The case has a paper I.D. for Beeson and is split at the seam. An image of a soldier is
one of the most combat active units in the war. #5199=$585.00
