at age 25 as a Captain at Owego, NY. He initially was commissioned into the 3rd NY Inf, on 5/14/1861. He resigned his commission
on 3/14/1862 and was again commissioned on 10/3/1862 into the 109th NY Infantry. He ultimately was promoted to Major General
(by brevet) and was wounded at Petersburg, VA on 7/30/1864 where his right leg was amputated. He fought at Chancellorsville,
Gettysburg, The Wilderness, Spotsylvania Court House, Cold Harbor and Petersburg (wounded). He was awarded the Medal of Honor
for action on 7/30/1864 at Petersburg, VA in his heroic effort to rally the disorganized troops.
He is buried at Arlington National Cemetery. #4813=$350.00
