1/4 plate clear ambrotype in a full leatherette case. This officer has a verbal I.D. of Hamilton from RI. Research indicates that Edward Hamilton is the only individual from Rhode Island (note the distinctive 3 button jersey) that was an officer or NCO. If this is, in fact Edward Hamilton, he was mustered in at the age of 18 on 10/5/1861. He wears a red tinted officer of the day sash and rests his hand upon a book with gilded pages. He was promoted to sergeant but served as acting Sergeant Major and acting Quarter Master Sergeant at times. Company D of the 3rd RI HA was attached to Sherman's Expeditionary Corp early in the war. They served at Hilton Head,SC; Folly Island, SC; Morris Island, SC; and Fort Pulaski, GA. Hamilton was mustered out on 10/5/1864. #3491=$750.00
