This 1/4 plate tintype has incredible content. The image includes 2 horses, 1 dog, 2 black stable hands, 6 uniformed soldiers (at least 3 officers) and a civilian. I wonder if this was a winter camp as there are decently assembled buildings but not permanent in nature. Of note: There is a soldier at the far righthand side peeking at the photographer from behind a pole. The soldier, second from left, has crossed sabers & the numeral 1 on top of his kepi. Of the 5 soldiers in the center, the one on the right appears to be wearing a 4 button sack coat with Lt. bars on his shoulders and a tall brimmed forage cap. The two officers next to him wear frock coats. One of them wears a kepi, while the others wear slouch hats. One of the others wears a tall forage cap & the other has himself draped in a blanket. None of the center soldiers wear cavalry boots. It further appears that they've brought their golden retriever mascot for the photo. This is a most unusual outdoor image with just about everything you could want. The image is a bit dark and comes in a 1/2 case. Subjects and location are unknown. #3406=$2600.00
