Framed in with the floral curtain to his left, the soldier in this 1/6 plate melainotype wears his dark, 9-button frock coat with similar trousers. He casually holds his musket with attached bayonet. His cartridge box can barely be seen under his elbow, but is attached to the cross belt. Of some interest is the ungilded number "12" and his company designation "G" on the face of his bummers cap. Melainotypes are notoriously dark, but this image is surprisingly well-lit. You can make out the "Neff's Patented Melainotype" at the bottom upside down. This image is published in my recent book "Civil War Hard Images Volume 4". The image comes in a full leatherette case with a repaired spine. #11218=$550.00
