The private in this 1/6 plate tintype holds what is likely an 1842 Springfield rifled musket. Under magnification the front barrel
cap appears to be more like a Lorenz, but the Lorenz takes a different bayonet. The front barrel band, behind the nose cap, looks
like the rear band on the 1842. The young soldier, in this bright and well focused image, wears a frock coat, kepi and has both
his US waist belt and plate and the eagle cross belt and plate both of which are slight gilded. He has his cap box and large cartridge
box as well. It gets better . . . . there is an I.D. in the back of the case that looks to be "D. L. Wormer" or something close to that
and "24 Infy". Some research should be able identify this soldier. The case has been repaired at the spine and is a wood and paper case
in pretty good condition with a gold American flag on the face. The mat on the image is the desirable patriotic mat. Simply a great image. #11091=$900.00
